Do i want a Viper?

Post by TT540 » Sat Jul 06, 2019 10:43 pm

1994 viper rt/10, 8000 miles, black. Very much original. Fella inherited it about 4 years ago and has driven it a handful of times. Not a car guy at all.

I do not need it.
I sort of want it.

What do the viper fans think is the price range here? Internet ranges from $30k to $45k.

What are your thoughts on the market for these? People would just as soon go get a Vette versus a 25 year old car muscle car. I mean, it seems 700hp production cars are more the norm now a days then not.

if you can do it then do it. Don’t break yourself but we all had viper posters on our walls as kids and there is something beautiful about those cars. When everyone else was struggling through the 90s with limp dick offerings Dodge went full AMERICA and dropped a widow maker.
Do it for that teenager that said he would have one one day
Do it cause your a car guy and will appreciate it
Do it cause vettes are so common we barely notice them anymore but every car guy says holy shit a viper
Do it for AMERICA!!

That’s the hardest model to sell so I’d just say if it’s cheap enough that you can get some fun out of it and can sell it and come out (if not profit) when the time comes then go for it.

Is the value that high due to miles? I was thinking that was GTS range?? Maybe values are coming up on the originals since production ended?
Can't fix stupid.

Why should I have to change my name? He’s the one that sucks!

The super early RT10s like that are really really really unrefined, like on the level of a mediocre kit car. Unless it's 50-60% of street value, I'd pass. Hard to sell and not particularly fun to drive.

I am trolling a few forums to get smarter on them. Comparison shopping puts the low ball value at 27k. I'm sure some sell for less depending on the amount of neglect.

We'll see what happens. If someone else is interested, I can toss it to you if I pass on it. I will probably look at is this week or weekend.

For a Gen 1 with that kind of mileage, $28K is the most I would ever want to go on it. I would imagine the head gaskets are original, and if they are, that's the first thing you're going to want to do.

If it's a clean title you might be able to do OK on flipping it.

The tire kickers would be insane. I have never went to look at a car just to look if I want interested in buying. I just don’t feel right about wasting their time but I would be sorely tempted with that one.

Charles and Ryan pretty much summed it up. If it’s the car I’m thinking it is a guy my dad works with mentioned it to me several years ago. I kicked the idea around but those cars just pretty much suck. Unless I could get it for less then 18k I don’t think I’d be the slightest bit interested. Chances are it’s going to need some work to be roadworthy from sitting so much.
