C5 cam swap - who's done it?

Post by JasonB » Thu Apr 11, 2019 9:04 am

Anyone want to do mine? :)

I'm at a place where I want to swap a cam into the C5, but I just can't bring myself to tear into it. I was talking to Clyde about it last night. Anyone here love wrenching on C5s and want to spend a weekend with me in the garage? I can do a little better than beer money, but not much. :)

Nope, for me. Gomer and his brother installed mine.

Harley did his with Gomer's brother on the black C6. He may have done his in his TA, too.

It’s pretty intuitive. Once you get the radiator and steering rack out it’s a cake walk. There are tons of videos and write ups online.

If you decide to tackle the cam swap I can lend you some wood rods to support the lifters, valve spring compressor, harmonic damper puller & installer, etc. Time however is something that I rarely have. Let's just say my car's coolant temp was still 130° when I started it up to come in to work this morning.

Thanks Randy, but I've actually had to back off doing wrenching at my house. I simply do not have enough time anymore. Barely get things done on my own cars these days.

Never done much wrenching on Corvettes but just curious as to why the steering rack needs to be molested at all to get at the cam?

My only guess is access to the harmonic balancer to remove it & get the timing cover off?
