School me on new trucks

Post by Beckham2 » Fri Dec 22, 2017 4:28 pm

I've been throwing around the idea of selling the V for a truck. Love the CTSV but I'm looking to get into something with a little more room (2 kids now) and eventually just buy a 2 seater fun car.

School me on what to look for or not look for in the newer trucks. Here's some stuff I need or don't need.

- Don't plan on towing anything. Maybe a small boat a long time from now but nothing in the foreseeable future.

- I like the looks of the F150's, Silverado's, and GMC's.

- Price range is $30-40k. Less is better, obviously. Hoping I could snag some good deals on late models sitting on the lots.

- What engines to search for or stay away from? I know the ecoboost is pretty good but haven't followed the engine trends in the Chevy's.

- Nissan/Toyota even worth looking at?

- Not picky on color. Would prefer leather interior.

So, yeah... let's chat.

I daily a ‘16 crew cab 2wd 5.3 LT silverado and love it. Much better 5.3 than the 07-13 variants. (Power / drivability wise). Average 19.4 mpg’s drive 100+ miles a day stop and go mix on my commute but run 75-85mph daily and that’s my average. Has great Bluetooth, and CarPlay if hardwired. The seats are like a relaxed recaro, mine are black leather with white stitching. Look pretty sharp. Remote start/heated seats/satellite pretty standard now. The tailgate locks with the keyless, that’s nice option. Even without a cover it’s a deterrent. Your welcome to drive it.
Can't fix stupid.

Why should I have to change my name? He’s the one that sucks!

I’ve towed this week, knocked the average down.

My boss has a new 3.5 ecoboost f150. He's had it about a year and has no complaints. Peraonally I like the GMC's but it's just personal preference.

I haven't paid attention to any of the dodge, Toyota, or Nissan stuff.

Look at the 4runners in a trim level you're comfortable with. They'd be more practical for your family and you aren't buying a truck to do any truck shit so make the cargo area more useful. The Tacoma is a steaming pile of shit this generation (doesn't share anything with 4runner)

You aren't buying any of the big 3 trucks new unless you get a stripper work truck for 30-40k. 4runner can be optioned nicely for under 40.

Not looking to buy new. Preferably lower mileage (sub 30k if possible) with warranty is preferred.

So school me on 4Runners, Daniel. I've always liked them for the looks but have never done research on them.

A co-worker just bought a 2017 GMC 4 wheel drive, 4 door cab for 38k - brand new. Catch one of the dealers with a new 2017 at the end of December.

I like my crew cab 2015 Silverado. Only complaint is a shudder taking off a light load and sometimes the 6 speed can’t seem to decide what gear it wants. Otherwise it gets great mileage and drives like a caddy (with Michilens not the worst tire ever invented installed from the factory on it...SRAs) The nicer models got the 8 speed and the 18s have 10 speeds. You can get into a All Terrain model for a reasonable price.

That’s a steal...I wonder why they mostly do those sales on the 4wds and not the 2wds

If I can catch a 2017 with good options for mid to upper 30's I would grab that all day long.

We just sold our 4Runner to get the new Volkswagen Atlas. The 3rd row seat in those can comfortably sit a normal sized adult. I have 2 kids as well and we could not go anywhere with any of our friends/in laws because the 3rd row in the 4Runner is apparently for 10 year olds. We bought brand new for 40k but they can be had for cheaper with less options. Just a thought if you go the SUV route and need room for additional people without buying a suburban.
