Generic 2006-2008 Ford Explorer questions

Post by racinfast002 » Fri Oct 06, 2017 8:05 am

So my wife axed our low mileage rebuilt title escape, and I must say she made out pretty damn good on it. Was super surprised by that.

Anyway, bigger is better and she wants a 2006-2008 Ford Explorer. I don't know much about these other than they are old and most have some miles. I think they have trans issues as I see a lot with new/rebuilt transmissions. Most seem to be V6 models, and I'm ok with that, as we need it to be efficient as possible.

They pretty much look like garbage. Just get a gmt800 tahoe and tune it. It will get the same mileage as a v6 exploder and will last 400k miles.

When you Google "2006 explorer" the first suggestion is "2006 explorer transmission". Should tell you something.

Yeah I've already wrote off the fact I'll have to put a transmission it. I would prefer the Tahoe but wife isn't a fan. "Too big" I'm just glad I talked her off the minivan cliff

My ex-wife had an 03 with the 4.6 in it. Got about 22mpgs on the highway and never had an issue. It had well over 100k miles on it when she got rid of it and it still ran great. Can't kill a 4.6 as long as it's been maintained.

They go pretty well with other vehicles that chew through transmissions haha. Seems like every other one I see has grenaded an engine from oil starvation problems as well. Told Jessica to just move on and finance a SRT-8 Jeep hahah

Tell her to drive one. My wife was stuck in that mid-size SUV mindset as well and every time I mentioned a Tahoe, Suburban, or Yukon she gave me the same response. I finally convinced her in August to test drive one and we ended up buying a 2015 Yukon Denali with 40K miles. Another thing that might help is if you explain that at some point, because of kids, you'll have no choice but to upgrade to a full size. Might as well bite the bullet and do it now.

I’m not financing my wife another vehicle period. She runs them all in the dirt. Tbss would be my vote but not enough seats.
