So I traded for a fancy miata

Post by racinfast002 » Mon Nov 07, 2016 7:42 am

So I turned my fox body into a Porsche. I can't believe at the string of trades I've put together, but hey sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Long story short, automatic G35 is a dismal vehicle to drive. It had nothing in the way of fun factor. So I found a guy down here in Orlando that needed a car with more room and traded for his VERY yellow Porsche Boxster. Car just had the RMS and new clutch put in it which are common failure points and means I won't have to do it. Anyway, here is the yellow car.

Oh and for the record. The plan is to drive this for a little a while and see how it does. If it turns out that it isn't a pile of junk that requires maintenance all the time, I plan on selling it and buying myself a 911

Good job on the trade..

I have heard that the 911s are pretty reliable for the amount of performance you get out of them. As much as you can jump in and slang wrenches, I think you would do well in one, even if its normal upkeep was a bit more expensive.

They are notorious for rear main leaks and intermediate shaft bearing failures. Keep watch, but I hope it does well for you. Congrats!

Yes I have read lots on that. Honestly, I'm not going to dork with the IMS bearing on the boxster, because its a VERY involved job that takes a lot of time, and this car just isn't worth a lot of money (I mean were a few steps away from 944 territory here). However if I invest in a 911, I will spend the money to make sure that it never craps out on me. Plus from what I read, this early model year boxster has a better factory bearing than the later year models that crap out.

Oh and these things are not built for big people. I'm super tiny and even I am like "damn this thing is small on the inside." Would love to see Joel try and fit in it.

I can think of about 5 times in my life when I thought "hmmm this is tiny." Usually I never notice, so if I notice, it must be REALLLLLLY small.

The Boxster S is pretty cheap now and I hear it can do nice things with some minor mods. I drove a regular version years ago and actually preferred my Barbie car MR-2 Spyder for some reason.
