Re: Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

I must say it turned out better than expected. The unfortunate part is once I polished it I realized that the years of going down trails seems to be accentuated. I took a pretty heavy cut on It’s the first time but it obviously needs more attention than that. I will say the polishing followed by the...

Re: Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

It was going so well....right up until the backing pad exploded. So ordered another backing pad and will continue on. Jeep is going to require a 3 stage polish but I guess that is to be expected for a vehicle that has spent the last 10 years in the woods.

You may not need to clay the telluride. You can try a fallout remover like ironx instead. It is not abrasive.
I figure it can’t hurt to clay it. Especially since my wife has already put 2500 miles on it.

Re: Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

Alright pulled the trigger on chemical guys polishes. Went ahead and bought their 4 pack with different stages. For coating I went Nano polish. Has really good reviews on Amazon and claims to have 80% silicone dioxide. I’ll let you know if it’s worth a crap. My plan is as follows Two bucket wash wit...

Re: Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

I’ve done several cars, including the Camaro. Actually applying the ceramic coating is pretty easy, but the prep work is a lot. Getting all the swirls and marks out of the paint is key. I used CQuartz to good effect for the. Coating and Meguiars 105/205 with orange/blue pads. Harbor Freight has the...

Re: Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the kind words. Justin, just take your time and have patience. I'm more of a wrencher than waxer, so this was a big deal for me to take all the time I did with this one. The paint is 12 years old. Below is what I think is a very good video. Take the time to watch this guy. ...

Re: Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

You mention ceramic coat, then you talk about a DA buffer. So do you have a buffer, or polisher? First, you are talking "paint correction" when you mention the buffer, I believe. I use a Porter Cable 7424XP with both orange and white Lake Country pads for the polishing. I use Meguiar's Professional...

I'm too cheap/lazy for a real coating. I have been using meguiars hybrid ceramic spray wax on our cars for a little while and am happy with the results:effort ratio
Oh I’m ok with spending a whole Saturday on this effort to not have to do it again for several years.

Anyone DIY ceramic coat?

So wife’s new telluride is new and I want to keep it looking that way. I am considering doing a ceramic coat on it to help protect it from the sun down here in Florida. Obviously before I go on this adventure I am going to do a trial run on my Jeep. I already have a porter cable da buffer, but haven...

Re: What Did You Do to Your Hotrod Today?

We looked at everything. Drove everything. And at the end of the day the Telluride was absolutely the best value for the features. And I’m right there with you on never buying a Kia or especially spending this much on one, yet here I am, loving it. Now that being said all it does is haul people fami...
